Our family

A global family united by the same goal
– feeding the next hungry child

Our vision

Every child needs enough to eat and deserves to have an education

Our vision is that every child receives one daily meal in their place of education and that all those who have more than they need, share with those who lack even the most basic things.

Working together with those who share our vision, we believe there is no good reason why this vision cannot be realised.

What’s important to us is the hungry child. When there are hungry children in front of us today, we’re going to feed them, and at the same time we’re going to work on the solution to getting them fed in the long term, creating a global movement of people who believe in this vision.

Where we work

Serving children in 16 countries.

We firmly believe that every child in the world deserves an education and enough to eat and we have seen the difference that daily meals served in a place of learning can make to vulnerable children and whole communities.

Whether these meals are being served to semi-nomadic children attending Early Childhood Development and Education centres in the desert landscapes of Turkana in Kenya or being enjoyed by Syrian refugee children while they try to rediscover normality through education in their new home of Lebanon, food is changing the story for hungry children all over the world.

Without the incentive of food served in school giving vulnerable children a chance to learn, they might be forced to work or beg to secure their next meal.

Our impact

The canteen is important because it provides a stable frequency rate at the schools, because the students can count on a warm meal. This gives them peace of mind.

Assessing our impact

Our five-year research project observed our school feeding programme in two of our largest country programmes: Malawi and Zambia.

We spoke to children, teachers, parents and volunteers in each country to find out more about the difference school meals are making. Our findings showed that the meals we serve every school day have the power to impact child hunger and children’s energy and wellbeing and to increase school enrolment and improve attendance.

Although our focus will always centre around the children we serve, the impact of our work on communities is also significant, and the generosity and dedication of our volunteers and local communities is intrinsic to our approach to school feeding.

Mary’s Meals is a global movement of people playing their part in tackling world hunger using a simple idea. Mary’s Meals helps to encourage children into the classroom – and gives them the energy to concentrate on lessons – so they can gain an education that can help them work towards a brighter future.
